  • Scope and Content
Thanks parents for letter. Had a half day; was supposed to begin at 1.15pm, but owing to pressure of work, did not get off till 2.30 pm. Met Jim [brother] and went to the New Gallery [cinema] in Regent Street; excellent restaurant where they got tea. There are a good many American girls who have come over here to nurse. It is easy to tell if they are Americans by the way their hair is done - quite different to the English style. It is most amusing to listen to the way they talk. Getting into the way of nursing and enjoying it immensely. One man on C ward, Price, comes from Victoria Terrace, Bedford. He has lost his left leg. Describes preparing men for operations, making up the beds for their return, getting them into bed and then checking them as they come round from the anaesthetic.
