- Scope and ContentThe officer in the battery who was printing the writer's photographs has been demobilised, so the writer is sending the films home for printing. Describes the photographs; e.g. 'the house behind the avenue of trees is our old headquarters'. Mme. Gilbert gave the writer a ticket for a charity performance at the cinema. During the interval all the young ladies came round with trays of things to buy. The writer got landed with a souvenier ash tray, some engravings of Mons, scent, toothpaste in a glass vessel, biscuits, cherry brandy, beer, chocolates and a lot of cigarettes; the Belgians were not offered anything until the British officers had been bankrupted! Now only 2 officers left in the battery at Cuemes, Barry and Boyd. The writer went for tea, and they were joined by the children of a local family. Describes a game played. All the brigades are dumping guns and stores in Mons, preparing for departure, some to England and some to the Rhine.
