- Scope and ContentFirst letter: Still at Verchin. Weather cold 'we sleep with mufflers on and Balaclava helmets for night caps.' Describes a local walk. Second letter: Not yet been posted. Describes previous evening ...'everyone got very merry at dinner; we also had the orchestra - a piano, violin and cello and a vocalist....we had a tremendous game of musical chairs and finished up with a grand sort of exhibition of the Highland fling - fat old major and everyone - which lasted till we went through the floor of the hut.' The chocolate is good, but expensive. Unlimited sugar is available. Third letter: Describes weather. Still waiting to be posted. Asks parents to send tobacco ..'one can get cigarettes out here ...but I prefer a pipe and it is better for one.'
