  • Scope and Content
The writer is with the Ist Bedfordshire Regiment. Describes the 'French peasant' and the spartan nature of the French home. 'We have a little excitement sometimes watching duels between areoplanes or between an aeroplane and anti-aircraft guns. We have to take shelter occasionally from flying bits of our own shrapnal. But the Somme was THE place for such fun.' Thanks Kaye for his offer of galoshes, which would be most acceptable.
