- Scope and Content"If the plan your Grace sends hither should come after my Lord Harrold's setting out for Italy, we shall take care to have it sent with great care. It seems to me that it would be proper to know the dimensions in breadth and length of the terrace before the house and that to the garden and of the ground that lies betwixt them, which will remain for the house, the steps on both sides, as well as the rise of the terraces to and from the house; the profile will show how much your Grace designs to raise the ground floor above the terrace. As for the hall and gallery your Grace designs, they seem so proper for an English country house that it will admit of no alteration, neither could they be placed in a more proper or convenient place. My Lord Harrold designs as he goes through Italy to get what printed plans he can of the best houses he meets with and to endeavour to be informed of the best architects in several places of Italy."
