Son of Anthony, 11th Earl of Kent, and Mary (daughter of John, 1st Baron Lucas). Married (i) Jemima,(died 1728) daughter and coheir of Thomas,2nd Baron Crew of Stene. Their children were: Anthony Grey, Earl of Harrold, 1696-1723 (married Mary, daughter and coheir of Thomas Tufton, 6th Earl Thanet); Henry Grey died 1717; Amabel Grey, died 1726 (married John Campbell, Lord Glenorchy, 3rd Earl Breadalbane); Jemima Grey, died 1731 (married John, 1st Earl Ashburnham); Anne Grey, died 1753 (married Lord Charles Cavendish); Mary Grey, died 1761 (married Dr. David Gregory, Dean of Christchurch). Married second wife Sophia Bentinck c.1729, daughter of 1st Earl Portland, Hans William Bentinck. Their children were George Grey, Earl of Harrold, c. 1732-33; Anne Sophia,born c. 1730, died c. 1780, married John Egerton, Bishop of Durham.
