- Scope and ContentBennet will have said writer is not going to London. Is hurt that he has not heard from Fox, altho' he told him of the meeting to be held on writer's secession. If it were not for his father he would resign his seat. Has heard no more of the proposed meeting. Has heard from [George] Tierney & disapproves of his conduct, which however is quite honourable. His part however tended to destroy the results of the secession. Gives Tierney credit for his fight against Pitt. If the taxes are given up, opposition will cease. Without peace an evil day will come. Mary & little girl are well. Now peace between France & Portugal, expects George home. Wishes he would buy Hawkesly near Wentworth. He mentioned this place when Widdrington died. Love to Bessy. Duchess wrote Mary an account of a quarrel between Tierney & Sheridan which Fox made up.
