- Scope and ContentIn its general report of 1936 the committee’s remit was explained as follows: “In May 1933 two letters were received almost simultaneously by the Council: one was from the Northamptonshire Record Society asking that the Council should take steps to formulate a scheme for the Classification of Parish Records, both Civil and Ecclesiastical: the other was from the Sub-Committee [chairman - Dr G H Fowler, see M13/4/4] charged by the committee of the Anglo-American Historical Conference with the duty of reporting on the Accessibility of Historical Documents and on the migrations of MSS., enquiring as to the possibility of classifying Documents in connexion with Local History. The Council then decided itself to appoint a committee to report on the questions raised by these two applications. Subsequently a Motion from the Conference of November 1934 asking the Council to investigate the possibility of a Uniform Scheme for the Cataloguing of Deeds, was also remitted to this committee: and in connexion with another Motion from the same Conference the Committee was asked to deal with the question of Records in the custody of Clerks of the Peace.” Includes: formal committee papers, generally annotated by Dr Fowler and some correspondence
