Scope and Content
The script, written by Jeanette Waller, a resident of Ampthill at the time, details the changes that Ampthill has gone through since 1950's and outlines the problems that the town faces now and may face in the future. The author first of all offers a nostalgic account of shopping in Ampthill in the 1970's, where a variety of shops and businesses thrived. The script goes on to detail changes since late 1970's, including the construction of several-hundred new houses and the proposed plans for a new supermarket, which have had knock-on effects on parking (which is becoming more and more limited) and commerce, as many shops have been closing down in recent years whilst residents choose to shop elsewhere. The script raises questions about the future of Ampthill and whether its expansion can be facilitated sustainably, before finally proposing the re-establishment of a Town Centre Partnership and stressing the need to be proactive in solving Ampthill's issues.
