    - All manors, messuages, lands etc to dear wife Anne; Personal estate also to wife; Wife made executrix; She to pay £20 per annum 'to my tender and loving mother'; Wife to show great kindness to her 'so long as she lives in this world and at her death bestow upon her a decent funerall and lay her body near the body of my late deceased father' in Hexton church, Hertfordshire; Wife to pay all debts; If wife remarry or die without making a settlement of his estate then property in Bedford, Cardington, Eastcotts, Wilstead, Westcotts and Goldington, and in Hunden, Suffolk, to son, Francis; Also to Francis (in that case) - Books - Best watch - Best gelding - Furniture and ½ linen, pewter and household goods; to son John Thurloe Brace - All other lands - All remainder personal estate; John to be made sole executor and to pay legacy to grandmother; If sons die before mother, then she to have real estate for life, paying his sister, Sarah, £100 per annum and remainder and inheritance of estate to go to nephew, Francis Brace, chargeable with £50 per annum for new erected charity school in Bedford; wife and children desired to take care of faithful friend John Penington and allow him £10 per annum. Will made 31 May 1705; With codicil; Property has been purchased by him in Kempston, Houghton Conquest, Hough End, Bedford, and Thurleigh and in Astwood, Buckinghamshire, some freehold, some copyhold, since making above will, to go to wife; said John Pennington is married 'and gone from me' and so legacy revoked. To be given 10s (to him and wife) to buy them rings; To sister Sarah Brace 'that now lives with me' - £20 yearly in addition to bequest in will; to servant Elizabeth Don and her sister Anne Swepson - 20s each; Codicil dated 21 Oct 1712; Probate (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) 31 Jan 1712[/13]
