    i) John Parker, Bedford, surgeon ii) Anthony Barton, Bedford, gentleman - Messuage, gardens, etc, late in the occupation of Thomas Scratchrode, in parish of St John's Bedford; East; St John Street West; West; ground belonging to John Cressy; North; John Barns and John Cressy; South ii); Term - 22½ yrs from the Annunciation; Yearly rent - £4 16s to i) - 20s to Master and Brethren of St John's Hospital i) Having assigned to ii) all his rights in said premises granted unto him by said Master etc Sig ii) Endorsed witnesses John Spolding William Crabb; With note attached 'I am deprived (at present) from the within mentioned House (now occupied by Mrs Lepipre, widow of the late Reverend Mr Lepipre). Barton with the Consent of Mr Hinde, Master of St John's obtained a fresh lease but in every respect unjustly and sold the same to Mrs Lepipre on a Mortgage Title. The said Mortgage Title was produced by a Mr Scott in London and sold the same to Mrs Lepipre on that unjust Title, which appears to have been transacted at the latter end of ye year 1785 or forward in ye year 1786'
