- Scope and ContentWilliam Ennals of Kimbolton (Hutns), relieving officer to the Union of St Neots – about 11 or 12 weeks ago Hays told him and the Board of Guardians that his wife was in a state of dangerous illness at Eaton Socon. He gave Hayes temporary relif and the Board of Guardians ordered him to afford relief at different times, which he did to the amount of 15s 6d. When Hayes made application to him he particularly questioned him as to whether he had a pension as he had been in the army, and he distinctly stated he did not. Hayes’ wife is dead, and he ahs since learned he has a pension of 9d per day, which he was receiving during the time he received relief. David Hayes – “I am not guilty of obtaining money by false pretences”.
