  • Scope and Content
    Thomas Barber, Philip Hunt 52 prisoners. The Gaoler reported that Joseph Lines had disobeyed the order of the inspector of the convict ward and struck the Turnkey; for which offence he was this morning placed in the refractory cell. Joseph Lines was brought before the Visiting Justices and the evidence on oath of George Robins, Inspector, and James Banfield, Turnkey having been given and the defence of the prisoner having been heard it was ordered that in consequence of his disobedience of orders and striking teh Turnkey, and abusing him with gross and indecent expressions the said Joseph Lines is convicted of a greater offence than the Gaoler is empowered to punish, namely assaulting the Turnkey, and the said Joseph Lines is sentenced to be punished for the same offence, and for using profane and indecent language, to one months close confinement.
