- Scope and ContentPhilip Hunt: John Clarke who attempted to hang himself with his neck handkerchief this morning appears to have recovered. Constant watching is resorted to in order to prevent a repetition of his crime. It appears from his conversation thathis mind has been disturbed by dreams and that he suffers from scrofulous sores. The Gaoler reported that John Tebbutt & his wife have arrived and entered on their duties as Turnkey & Sub Matron. The intense heat of the weather has caused the Surgeon to recommend a reduction of one hour in the ehat of the day in tread wheel labour.
