"I do not know in how much of all this William and Ella are engaged" Letter (first sheet only) Undated after 14 December 1878 Note Frederica interpreted 'engaged' as meaning 'engaged to be married'. However Sir William Rouse-Boughton married Ella Hotham on 1 October 1878 and Princess Alice of Hesse did not die till 14 December 1878. 'Engaged' here clearly means involved in!
