- Admin/biog historyFanny Stackhouse Acton was the eldest daughter of Thomas Andrew Knight. Thomas Andrew Knight having inherited Downton Castle from his brother Richard Payne Knight. Fanny's sister, Charlotte, married William Edward Rouse Boughton and Charlotte and William inherited Downton Castle from Thomas Andrew Knight. One of their daughters was Frederica St John Rouse Boughton who married Richard Orlebar. Frederica St John Orlebar was therefore Fanny's niece. Like her father and sister Fanny was a scientist. She was a botanist, archaeologist, writer and artist. In 1812 Fanny married Thomas Pendarves Stackhouse Acton (d.1835) of Acton Scott. They had one child, a daughter, who died at the age of 17.
