"He beats me because he says I am a witch and can put illness upon any body". He has frequently sworn he would kill her. William Wells - "I did it I know that and I have plenty of reason". William Coombs, chief constable of Bedford - heard William Wells say this morning that he would beat his wife "when he thought proper and would be damned to Hell if he would not kill her for all 'Tom Elgar' or any body else".
