- Scope and ContentRichard Buddle will pay Robert Chamberlin £200 which together with £200 added by Robert Chamberlin shall be used to purchase lands near Stamford or Werrington; which lands, together with messuage in St. Mary’s in Stamford in the occupation of John Miller and another messuage in the Beast Markett in Stamford in the occupation of Benjamin Reddish and a messuage or shop in Stamford in the occupation of George Redmile value £3 per annum (the lands and tenements of Robert Chamberlin to be settled to uses. Richard Buddle will bequeath to Robert Chamberlin £200 further marriage portion after the death of Richard Buddle and wife Elizabeth. Witnesses: Edward Lenton, Mary Burrows, J. Waslett. 26 November 1716. Copy examined: 10 October 1730 George Denshire, William Litchford. addressed in Denshire’s hand: For Mr. Luke attorney at law at Potton, Bedfordshire. [although not relating to the Clifton property dealt with here, a copy of this agreement was presumably obtained as a preliminary to Ringstead’s purchase from Chamberlin.]
