At one point it is mentioned that the pistols were with the butler but after this particular disturbance Mr Elliott took steps to ensure that there were pistols in his bedroom and that other servants were armed. On the final night in the house more noises were heard and Mrs Elliott explains that the boxes were already packed ready to be taken by railway or carriage and that the police constable had been staying in the house in the hope of tracing the origin of the disturbances.
