  • Scope and Content
Dear Mr Bigg, I am in receipt of your letter of November 23rd. I am not going to Trinidad and Jamaica merely on holiday, as I am going to look over the activities of the Baptist Missionary Society, of which I am Ex-Chairman. I do not put this reason forward, however, in support of my application for dollar funds. The simple fact is that I had planned and arranged to return direct from Jamaica by boat and thus there would have been no reason to call upon dollar funds but quite recently the Steamship Company have informed me that they could not give me a return passage and I had to look around to find means of getting home, and the journey via the United States seems to be the only feasible means left to me. I have booked a return passage on the Queen Mary next March. It is the gap between Jamaica and New York for which I want assistance. The assistance that I want is not anything great. I understand that I can pay for the passage between Jamaica and New York and home in sterling. I have no reason either to go to Cuba, I am merely passing through that Island en route, which I think is the most economical way to do the journey. I am not expecting to spend more than 2 days in Cuba, 2 days in Miami, and 2 days in New York and I am making application only for sufficient funds to see that I am not stranded for more than these 6 days. I think the minimum amount that I could manage, for each of us, in each of these centres, would be 100 dollars. Yours truly, H C Janes.
