  • Scope and Content
Dear Mr Janes, Reffering to your letter of the 15th instant, we first of all sought guidance from our Chief Foreign Branch who have replied as follows:- "We would inform you that it is contrary to the normal practice of the Bank of England to grant an allocation of U.S. dollar funds to persons travelling abroad merely on holiday, which we assume to be the position in the case of your customer and his wife. We shall however, be pleased to write to the Bank of England to ascertain whether they are prepared to make an exception in favour of Mr and Mrs Janes, but when doing to we shall require to know - (1) the length of time Mr and Mrs Janes anticipate they will have to spend in Cuba, Miami and New York, and (2) the minimum total amount of U.S. dollar funds it is anticipated they will require to cover the essential expenses of both of them in these centres" If you will let us have the information required, we shall be glad to request our Chief Foreign Branch to write to the Bank of England as suggested. Yours truly, S W Bigg, Manager.
