Scope and Content
The mass of papers briefly catalogued is the result of the poll which showed the following votes:-
John, Earl of Upper Ossory 1051
Hon.St.Andrew St.John 974
Robert Lord Ongley 973
On the petition of Lord Ongley, one vote was transferred to him, and the return was altered accordingly. This was met by a counter-petition by St.John. A Committee was appointed to investigate the validity of every vote, and detailed evidence was obtained in regard to hundreds of disputed votes (cf. HA14/1, pp.117-181). Many of the records in this group contain a great deal of miscellaneous information regarding individual voters, e.g. the first two cases in HA14/11/1 quote deeds of 1649 and 1639, and various Wills are recited in HA14/12/11,12]
