    1)Eleanor Lucy Leigh of Luton Hoo Park, widow (vendor). 2) Mayor Aldermen & Burgesses of Luton recites John Shaw Leigh late of Luton Hoo, Esq. entitled by purchase and not by descent of pieces of land, water power to Mill, right of culvert or watercourse and water passing through same.Recites will of John Shaw Leigh, late of Luton Hoo (died 15 June 1871) real estate & residue of personal estate to use of John Gerard Leigh (his son) & George Whitley, then of Bromboro, Cheshire.To secure payment of legacies subject to this residue of real, copyhold and personal estate to John Gerard Leigh (incl advowson of Walton-on-the-Hill)made 15 Nov 1866, proved Principal Registry 21 April 1875. Recites Release (Quit Claim). 1) John Gerard Leigh 2) George Whitley, 3) John Gerard Leigh 4) Robert Manley Lowe paid legacies and invested 2 legacies of £20,000 each conveyed by 1) & 2) to 3) in trust for 4) 28 May 1872. Recites will of John Gerard Leigh (died 24 Feb 1875) freehold estates to wife Eleanor Lucy for life, then to his heir at law made 15 July 1872. Proved Principal Probate Registry 21 Ap 1875. Recites Decree in Chancery, Eleanor Lucy Leigh, plaintiff, Henry Blundell Leigh, only brother & heir at law of John Gerard Leigh. Will gd one - Parliament to be applied for Act vesting estate in Trustees with power of sale, 29 Ap 1875. Draft Bill made 30 April 1875 filed 1 May 1875 (incl certificate of Judge's approval) Leigh Estate Act 1875, lawful for Eleanor Lucy Leigh or Henry Blundell Leigh or other Trustees to apply to Chancery to sell all or py of Lancs, Beds & Cheshire estates, death of Henry Blundell Leigh, died 19 Aug 1875. Order of Chancery. Case to be continued Eleanor Lucy Leigh (plaintiff) & H.G. Leigh. 20 Nov 1875. Further Order. Appointment James Finlay of Orgreave Hall, Stafford as Guardian. 14 Dec 1875. Letters of Incorporation of Luton Borough, 25 Feb 1876. 1875 Health Act empowers Borough to buy up any Water Mill or Dam or Weir impeding with Drainage. Agreement. 1) Eleanor Lucy Leigh 2) Luton Borough land & water power heretofore used for working Brache Mill and right to use culvert or watercourse. Consideration £4,400, 23 Ap 1878. Supplemental Agreement.Parties above, Subj to Chancery approval. Borough would stop up existing roads between F & b, substitute proposed new Road between F & b & widen existing road. G-H to width of 30ft on North side plant, quick fence on either side of road build bridge across River Lea where it was proposed to divert River to be of same width as new Road, level fences along portion to be stopped up & ground thrown in with adj fields of 1). 1) Agrees to convey land for new roads & also piece of ground between existing & new Road. 1) to remove buildings in way of new Road. 2) to take down bridge & put 15" pipe in in lieu (Below Road) 7 May 1878. Recites Order in Chancery in Leigh v Leigh. Confirms above orders. payment of £4,000 purchase money into Court. 10 May 1878. a) pieces of land now or heretofore forming pt of Enclosures called Home Close & Mill Close, Hamlet of West Hyde, Luton late in occupance of Henry Coles Brown & William Henry Brown (5A) with water power heretofore used for working Brache Mill and right to use culvert or watercourse shewn on plan and water passing through the same.
