  • Scope and Content
Bushmead Priory, to daughter at Mrs Challens, Grantham House, Grantham. I am deputed to answer your letter being the most idle person in the family, as your mother and sister are preparing their clothes for the ball tomorrow night. We talked of going to Bedford Races, but the Dawsons are servantless and ill, and cannot receive us. We therefore do not go today which is the first of the Races, but intend going tomorrow morning, and returning after ball as we did at Swaffham. Dr and Mrs Allvey dined with us on Monday. The two married ladies (Hester did not go) and your brother Hugh called at Melchbourn the other morning, and Lady St. John told them, she thought she should not go again with her son to school, but send some one else with him, they were so distressed at parting. I am very happy this is not the case with us, as we shall always like to accompany you - you are so good when we leave you. The Dawsons took their daughter to Northampton School. Glad you were amused with the Camera Obscura. Compliments to Mrs Challens. [This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
