- Scope and ContentNorwood. To Miss Milnes, Beckingham. Obliged by your polite letter - no pleasant thing to be called upon to correspond with a stranger, yet the advantages of early letter writing (as giving a familiar use of the pen) are obvious. I would here take occasion to request, my Dear, that should you again favour me with a letter, that it may be confined to our native tongue, for I am somewhat ashamed to acknowledge that in French and Italian I am quite unequal to you. I doubt not that you all feel the kindness of your Father [John Milnes] in seeking to procure you the advantages of a residence on the continent. Own delicate health, together with invalid state of brother and sister, confines me to the house. Regards to Mrs. Sarah Handley. There is no one, I believe, who more respected your dear Mother [Mary Selina Milnes]. (This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
