  • Scope and Content
Cowes Isle of Wight [to Mrs. Wade Gery at William Gery's Esqr., Bushmead Priory] Her brother's marriage [William Earle Welby married Wilhelmina Spry 1792]. The old Dame [probably Wilhelmina Spry's mother - cf "our quarrel with Mrs Spry", GY11/73] has squeezed herself in, notwithstanding William positively declared she should not. I fear that she will be a sort of Ashcroft in the Family. We almost live upon the Water, but think I rather grow worse than better. My father making a thorough Reformation at Denton. Intend building a green house and hot house. Saw man go down in a diving bell to the Royal George. By a letter from Mr Richard Welby gather the De Butts [Mary and Dr Samuel] are at last settled at Fells Point about a mile from Baltimore. Hope your carriage not the same colour as Williams, for every spot of dirt left a stain upon it (This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
