    Recites Lease 2 Nov. 1554, Geo. Monoux to Wm. Adams of Turvey, yeom., and Wm. Harding of Wootton yeom.: --manor of Bosoms in Wootton, with lands, tens., rents etc. in Wootton and Marston; 1 pightle of land in Bott End, which Geo. Monoux late purch. of Nich. Taylor of Stevington ; except all wood then standing and growing in one Great Wood in Wootton, containing 52 ac., and also except the timber trees of oaks, ashes and elms; also except 1 messuage in Culey End, Wootton, and lands, then occ. John Linwood and w. Anne by virtue of a lease made to them by Geo. Monoux late cit. and alderman of London decd. in 1538/9. Since the making of that lease Tho. Bedells has purch. of Geo. Monoux: -- the said pightle in Bott End, and the messuage last excepted, now occ. John Wheeler; and certain other lands called Griffith Thomas lands or Paines Squires lands. By the present lease: -- all the manor and lands as before in Wootton and Marston, except the pightle in Bott End and the timber trees before excepted. To hold from the expiration of Adams and Harding's lease for 30 years, paying annual rent of £17 13s. 4d. also the Great Wood 'and the said leet court and the perquisites and the profits of the same'; to hold for 41 years at a peppercorn rent. Bedells agrees to 'keep or cause to be kept yearly one court at the least within the said manor' at his own costs; also to repair all houses and buildings; also 'to make and amend the bonds, mounds and fences of the said wood and save and preserve the spring of the same from destruction of cattle; clauses also as to felling timber; and also 'Tho. Bedells agrees with the said Geo. Monoux that he at his own proper cost will provide find and allow the said Geo. and such company as he shall bring with him to the number of eight persons sufficient lodging, mans 'meat and horsemeat within Wootton for the space of six days and six nights together once in every year'.
