  • Title
Wootton: purchases and leases - Monoux
  • Admin/biog history
The first property purchased in Bedfordshire was Bosoms manor in Wootton, which George Monoux, citizen and alderman of London, bought from Edward Langley in 1514. Although there is nothing concerning this purchase in the collection, there are the earlier deeds of the manor in 15th cent. (AD2294-8), and two later leases (AD2299-2300). The Monoux family also held the manors of Canons and Studleys, acquired about 1680-90 by Lewis Monoux (AD2304-38, F520-25, X53/99-105). The acquisition of small Properties in Wootton was continued by each generation of the family. For a lease of Wootton House, 1808, see BS144, (by Sir P. Monoux).
