  • Archival history
About the time these books were made the Argylle and Bute families were connected. James, 2nd Earl of Bute married Anne, sister of the 2nd Duke of Argylle. Thus the books must in some way have come into the possession of the Stuart family. A letter from Arthur Owen of the Cambridge University Library, 4 May 1966, says that in the library [Add. 6570] is a further letter book (out-letters) covering 19 April 1711 to 18 January 1712, manuscript, in a rough hand, which could be the original from which WY 897-8 were fair copied. The manuscript was bought in 1924 from the Reverend A.G. de la Pryme, and presumably had descended to him from his grandfather, George Pryme of Wistow, Huntingdonshire, who owned it circa 1865] For film of Add 6570 see mic 234.
