    Counterpart lease for 11 years: (1) The Corporation of the Town of Bedford (2) Thomas Brown of Brumley [?Bromley], Middlesex, blacksmith. Lease by (1) to (2) for 11 years from Michaelmas next of all those two messuages with appurtenances in the parish of St Paul, Bedford, formerly in occupation of William Kemp and Elizabeth Gingham, late of William Weale, since of William Linford the elder and the said Thomas Brown, and now in occupation of Robert Favell and Thomas Spell: West - Duck Lane and also the foot causeway all the length of the premises. Annual rent: 13s. 4d. by equal portions at Lady Day and Michaelmas. (2) to keep premises and causeway in repair. Witnesses: Thomas Stratton, apprentice to Mr Bradley junior, William Theed, Clerk to Mr Cawne the Town Clerk. Signature: mark of Thomas Brown
