    Archives of the Bedford Borough Council, North Bedfordshire Borough Council and its predecessors up to March 2009, when Bedford Borough Council was awarded unitary status; to which have been added some gifts and transfers and a small collection of largely printed material.
  • System of arrangement
    In 1984 the archives in the muniment room of the Borough Council were catalogued. They were separated into sub-fonds by type or activity, namely Charters, town administration, registration and enrolment, finance, town property, judicial and legal, elections, charities, other organisations, printed material, illustrations, miscellaneous and stray. These archives were deposited in the Bedfordshire Record Office in July 1996. Previous to 1996 various other classes of Borough Archives had been deposited in the Record Office, these were Cemetery records, Borough Engineer's plans, building plans, photographs, reports and agendas post 1920 and yearbooks. Further deposits of material were received in 2000 and 2011 and these have been incorporated into the scheme.
