  • Title
    Counterpart lease for 11 years: (1) Corporation of the Town of Bedford (2) John Nottingham of Bedford, butcher. Lease by (1) to (2) for 11 years from Michaelmas next, of all those two shops in the Butcher Row, whereof one is called the Stulps: East - the entry or passage leading out of St Paul's churchyard into the west end of the Butcher Row; South - the entry or passage leading out of the churchyard into the fish market together with the upper room, loft, or chamber (now two rooms) over the first mentioned shop, late in the tenure of Frances Tall, widow. Annual rent: £3 payable by equal portions at Lady Day and Michaelmas. (2) bound in £20 to keep covenants. Endorsed: note of surrender of lease by (2) and assignment at his request to Mr Thomas Maddey, grocer. Witnesses: Matthew Priaulx, Town Clerk, Edmund Crowther. Seal: one applied.
