  • Scope and Content
’Dear Cousin Kate – Enclosed, you will find a clipping telling you of the death of my dear mother. She died November 24th at 1.15 am of cancer. Our anxiety was greatly relieved when the doctors told us Mother suffered no pain as death came from heart failure brought on by the cancer. We were all with her at the time, I held her left hand and Cordelia her right hand and after death come I kissed her for the last time. I feel very sad and I know it will be a long time until I get over the shock which came to me for I have spent nearly all my time with Mother and given her the tender care all Mothers deserve. At the grave the casket was placed in a steel tomb then lowered. By placing the casket in the steel tomb, no water will be able to enter therefore, Mother’s body will be kept absolutely dry. I hope you have recovered from your operation and that you are able to be up and around again, Cousin Kate, even if I have not written to you much as I should have done. I always enjoyed hearing from you through Mother and I often asked her to remember me to you. I hope you will write to me soon, as Cordelia and I are anxious to know how you are. Now with my best love and all good wishes I remain Your cousin Cedric M Davis.’
