‘I hope you will not be very disappointed with my will – but you will see that I am carrying out my Dear Father’s wishes in leaving the dear old place to R A Lyall for his life. He will take care of it, for your children, who may succeed him – I as you wd probably have had to let the manor (if left to you) it is far better to have someone there who wd love the place. So think of me kindly & remember me in Love, knowing that, if permitted, I shall often be present, in spirit with you & your children in the old earthly house I have loved so dearly.’
