  • Scope and Content
‘My dear Major, re Parsons. We shall be very happy to act both for you & Mr Parsons – but my dear man! Pray do not expect a “simple conveyance” unless you will first get rid of the nominal £3000 mortgage still vested in W F Green & Jno Green & ostensibly due to your late father’s estate. I really think you would do well to let us at once & for ever endorse a release of this mortgage; then your own personal title to Irchester would be clear & you could grant a simple conveyance then. A few guineas now spent would probably save a much larger outlay hereafter – so take my advise & let us do the needful. I cannot quite trace the cottages you have sold. Are they Freehold or copyhold? There appear to have been 9 freehold in 1858 then occupied as to 5 by Jos Neal & others, as to 2 by Sarah Tomson & Jn Waldrow, & as to 2 by Jas Smith & Nanl Tombs. All the above seem to be in the village so probably these now sold are 2 of them. I am very sorry your cold is so bad. The weather is very trying. Do take care of yourself, of course call Edith “Edith”. Best love to you all, yrs affectly, Edgar F Jenkins.’
