"I always thought there was a great deal of Popery in the High Church party (and I remember feeling it myself, when after reading Hooker's Ecclesisstical Polity I set up a shovel hat)" Oxford tracts. At Guildford, the Macaulays are sorely disappointed. Their nice new church is opened, and lo! they hear nothing but about baptismal regeneration and the monopoly of the Apostolic Successors to make the body of Christ. Am glad you have written to J. Bell. Our poor Emma is extremely feeble.
