More hope of resignation of living, as Thomas has written from Sandwich to Mr John Beedham to say that as he means to resign the living, he wants the houses in which Gaunt and Rennel late Smeaton live to be sold. I mean to adhere to my promise of an annuity, but let him know it is all he can expect from me. It would be wise for Mudge to postpone his move until after the accouchement. The unpleasant sort of warfare with your crazy-headed Rector. Mr Gould's engagement as curate terminates in May. Difficulty about dates for resignation of living and possible sale. Letter continues after receipt of a letter from Kimbolton, to say that Mr Gould makes himself friendly and is quite devoid of party jealousy. Also letter from T.M. saying he must hold the living until Michaelmas on account of the rents. He may yet change his mind. On his marriage says only "You have heard probably of my having changed my state". Have heard from Maidenhead that all goes well and the child is named Charles Alfred [Gorham]
