- Scope and ContentHave had tidings from Mr Longmire whom I met at Croxton. Hope you are at Shotley Gate enjoying the sea air. New members of Moravian congregation. Wm Pooles and his wife, Ann Hilson, Harriet Lauten. "Of John we had no tidings. Thomas is gone to London for a few days - returns before Sunday .....We do not yet hear when his marriage with L. Pope is to take place, all we know is, that Sanson has now and then a letter. Emma is still with us and we expect one of the aunts to come soon an fetch her back. Carrol is also here on a visit and is looking very well. She often enquires about you and sends her duty. ... I often think of our visit to Mr Irvings place that wet morning, but I am not satisfied with what I witnessed. I came away with an impression that it was a man whose gruff voice I heard behind me - is it possible it could be a female ? I know not what to make of it. I liked much of what Mr. Irving said... We hear nothing of the cholera in your neighbourhood. It seems to be closing round us - at Aylesbury and Olney on one side and St Ives, Ramsay, Whittlesea on the other ..."
