- Scope and ContentAre on a visit here with the Gorhams. We feel much interest about Samuel Holt. As to his going to school, that would be needless. A little grammar and medicine and carpentering would be useful. Latin and Greek would be of no use at all. Give me, said R. Hill in a missionary sermon, 'Give me a Moravian Missionary, a man that can make bricks all day and preach at night ! We now have a service at Pertenhall morning and evening, but not being so limited to the priesthood as you are, we can make use of unordained persons, so Brother John Bell or Peacock or Islip may officiate. My wife is going on Monday to take Emma back to Guildford. The confirmation was at Kimbolton last Friday. Thomas did not go, and I believe sent only five. I had occasion to go to Kimbolton about 4 and met a rabble of boys and girls on the causeway, behaving most indecently. What a pity ! ... We never confirm, except when persons are on the point of becoming communicants, and with young people the instruction is a preparation for the Holy Communion.
