  • Scope and Content
I have now been a long time in a state of more or less weakness .. among other things, a reluctance to letter writing has more than usually prevailed, in consequence of which I am sadly in arrears, and feel sometimes ready to burn all my pens and give it up for a bad job. .. We are planning an excursion for a few weeks in hopes of my benefitting by change of air and exercise. .. We shall look forward to the pleasure of seeing you and dear Rhoda ... We propose to set off after our next Communion i.e. after July 12th and spend some days between London, Clapham and Guildford - and then I should like to get some sea air at the Isle of Wight whence perhaps we could get by sea to Weymouth or somewhere in your neighbourhood. Thomas has just been here and desires me to send his love to you both, he seems pretty well - my mother continues much as usual - as do the rest of the folks here - I do not know whether you heard of Thomas Frossell junior having joined the Society here - the Church Society I mean - he seems to be in good earnest - Mary Day now lives with her Father and carries on the millinery business and nothing is said about it - only Mrs. G.B. cannot be quite silent. Nothing much is stirring except a report about the house where old [?] Ekins died being haunted by him - Lynn has left it - it is said on account of the strange noises etc. - and William Bell now lives there, but under great alarm.... I have also been to Bedford to meet our Bishop Foster who came to ordain Br. Rogers a Presbyter ... The Gorhams have been rambling to the Isle of Wight ... Jane has Emma with her at Clapham, and the Macs have all been poorly especially Maria whose illness seems to be alarming. You ask my advice as to the disposal of your money - I should think a good mortgage would be the best - at 4 per Cent, as in the funds you could have little more than 3, and it is not unlikely that Funded property will ere long be taxed .... P.S. Began mowing yesterday - it rained all day but to day is very fine
