  • Scope and Content
He arrived (having been transported) on 8 Aug 1838. As transportation has now ceased "assignment" has ceased with it, and he has been sent to different places on Government employment, including building a new gaol near Sydney, and later a dock at Five Island Stockade. He is now stonecutting at Wollongong, which he describes; he also lists prices. His companion, John Sweepson, sends a message to his wife; he wrote 18 months ago and has had no reply. He asks for an immediate reply, which should reach him in 10 months. Postcript adds that he is suffering wrongfully, and perhaps his wife could do something to get redress. (the letter has evidently been written for him).
