  • Scope and Content
From: Robert How of Luton; To: Thomas Sworder of Hertford "Enclosed I forward a/c of rents received by me, with Cheque to balance which I trust will be found correct please acknowledge receipt. Plough Kensworth I have seen Mr.Benning and he informs me he has taken a deposit of £50 from Stevens on the purchase of this property, the purchase is not to be completed till Michaelmas and he says he must agree with you about the form of conveyance, I think it would be well for you to correspond with Mr.Benning on the subject or when the time for completing arrives there will be a further delay, and I fear you will be getting no rent and losing Interest. "Crown" & "Globe" Dunstable I have inserted a preliminary notice of Sale by Auction of these two Houses but would prefer seeing the conditions before fixing of Sale. Please let me have conditions when I will immediately publish the sale. John Ironmonger occupied the shed at the lower part of the Old Brewery yard and says I am to submit the rent for your approval, he says 3-/- per quarter is enough, I think 40/- would not be too much, please let me have your answer. I am sorry in was from home when you came to Luton, I should have been glad to have seen you, am pleased you made an arrangement with Lane about the "Cock Inn" as he and I are not friendly and could not meet. I should not have troubled you with such a long epistle but was desirous of explaining fully the accounts of all the properties which shall receive my best attention".
