Assorted Correspondence, Accounts and Bills: these had previously been listed simply as: "Correspondence: T.Sworder with Rob.How (agent?), bills etc., 1864-70". The bundle has now been weeded and many of the receipts, including those for Land Tax, Income tax etc., destroyed, only those with notable billheads or of interest for their content have been retained. The remainder have been catalogued according to the simple scheme below: X95/290/1: Correspondence X95/290/2: Accounts X95/290/3: Receipted Bills, kept The correspondence reveals that Thomas Sworder of Luton seems to have run the brewery of Thomas Sworder & Company whilst his uncle, Thomas Sworder of Hertford, a principal creditor of the business both directly and by guaranteeing other loans, seems to have run the licensed side of the business through his agent Robert How of Luton.
