No work; billets cleaned up and interior economy 16 Jan 1918 Part of the Battalion as [sic] engaged as digging parties on road draining. The remainder are on training and classes. Draft of 40 arrived 17 Jan 1918 Work and training continued 18 Jan 1918 Usual work and training 19 Jan 1918 Usual work and training. This morning the billet area was shelled with Shrapnel for a short time. 20 Jan 1918 No work or training. Battalion Church Parade 21 Jan 1918 Work and training resumed 22 Jan 1918 Usual work and training 23 Jan 1918 Ditto. This afternoon the first Divisional Weekly Cross Country Run took place. The Battn secured 4th, 5th, 6th and 10th places. 24 Jan 1918 Usual work and training 25 Jan 1918 Ditto. Reinforcements consisting of 1 Officer and 43 Other Ranks arrived today 26 Jan 1918 Usual work and training 27 Jan 1918 Heavy rain fell and Church Parade was consequently cancelled. No work etc. Draft of 48 O.R's joined 28 Jan 1918 usual work and training. The C.O. took over duties as Brigadier on the latter taking a short leave. Major James assumed command of the Battalion 29 Jan 1918 Usual work and training. Draft of 20 Other Ranks joined today.
