Letter from Arthur Thorn, 147 Lower Richmond Road, Putney [Surrey] to J.H.Hoare, Dunstable "I thank you for yours & trouble you have taken. My position is that I had to pay I believe £11 to be admitted to this stupid arrangement. Bennifits [sic] have been nill [sic]. The rights of sport mines & minerals of half a rood of ground in my orchard are nill & The good ladies you mention want £1 to relinquish them. So I am expected to pay the in, & out. Will you please inform them I am enclosing rent to date 6d. I am willing to pay £3/10/- to fully settle my liabilities in this matter. I cannot imagine this 1d a year business can be ecconomical [sic] & therefore there is nothing to pay compensation for. It certainly would not be for me. Otherwise I shall be glad for them to continue to exercize [sic] the sporting rights &c they have hitherto enjoyed & I will forward another 6d six years hence. Again thanking you Mr.Hoare for trouble you have takin [sic]".
