  • Title
Claimant: John E.White and Mrs. Bertha Mary Barnard; Occupier: J.E.White; Owner: Mrs. Bertha Mary Barnard; Property: Bourne End Farm, Wootton and Top Farm, Wootton; Land Affected: Fields Nos 344, 345 and 346 (total of 53 acres to be broken up) at Wootton and Field No. 494 (41 acres to be broken up) at Marston Moretaine. Additional Information: - this file is an aggregation of two files, both with the same number; - even though JEW had no legal claim, the Orders having been served before he took the tenancy, it was decided to grant him compensation because he thought he ought to carry out the Orders and believed he would receive compensation and fresh Orders would have been served on him had he not complied and these would have carried a legal right to compensation; - the file includes reports of an arbitration between John Todd and North Riding of Yorkshire Agricultural Executive Committee which was thought to have a bearing on JEW and BMB's right to compensation; - the claim was to go to arbitration but was eventually settled without recourse to this.
