    Thanks for your further letter. It is indeed sad that so many of our fine houses are being used for different purposes to what was intended and that the original smart state of life no longer graces them. You would have looked very fine if you had made that sort of life your profession. Perhaps when you want a less active calling you might get a post as a caretaker of some show place or some historic mansion. You would add much to its dignity by your imposing presence. Ordinary smart life in Town and Country seems to have come to an end. I enclose you another number of Country Life - a great friend now supplies me with it. I remember that some one did say that he would supply us (I think to Cooper, the brother) with some old numbers, but I don't remember who it was and the offer did not materialise. The days are now so short & dreary that I advise you to wait before coming over again. But I should surely like to see you, if you care to propose yourself. I hope the family are all well. I have seen lots of demobbed men who nearly all seem keen on dogs and their use
