Correspondence of Sir Anthony Henry Wingfield [1857-1952] with Sidney Matthews Unless otherwise stated all letters are written on notepaper headed Ampthill House, Ampthill, Beds. Telephone Ampthill 10. They begin 'Dear Sir', or from 25 July 1945, 'Dear Sidney', and end 'Yours truly' or 'Yours very truly A.H.Wingfield' unless otherwise noted. They are subscribed whilst 'Dear Sir': 'To Sidney Matthews Esq, Southfield Cottage, 30 Southfield Road, Loughborough. (Later address 61 Forest Rd., Loughborough) The text is quoted in full, except where indicated thus: . . . . . . Indecipherable words are indicated by - - - - - - Some punctuation has been simplified, and use of capital letters modified. Sir Anthony's numbers are not always clear, 4 & 7 and 5 & 8 being similarly written, but incorrect transcription will not be significant, and originals can always be checked. Sample envelopes addressed by Sir Anthony to each address will be found after letter 200.
