- TitleThanks for your letter of the 8th. I hope you got one from me yesterday with a copy of the Illustrated London News which had a picture in it of the Brighton Pavilion. I am glad that you had a nice quiet Christmas and that Major has so improved in strength. I hope he may still prove to be a good carrier for you. I have not been to Burley on the Hill. I think it belongs to the Finch family. I have my younger son and his wife staying here. They have brought with them a fine Golden Labrador dog called "Peter". I hope the days will soon lengthen out a bit. . . . [PS] Several of my former staff have just been demobbed & tell me of adventures & rides.
