    I fear that I have been a long time answering your last letter, but I have been very busy in many ways largely owing to the coming of Christmas and also I have been seeing a lot of demobbed soldiers & sailors & some over on their last leave before being released. I am sending you another little book which I am sure will interest you. It is the book that the National Trust is publishing, this being the fiftieth year of their existence. It is written by a friend of mine J.Lees-Milne who is their chief advisor. He is a very interesting man. We are now very near the shortest day & I hope when the days begin to lengthen you will come over and have another talk. I know Lord Powis very well & remember his giving me a party-coloured swan for Whipsnade. I hope your family are all well & that Major keeps his health & walks in the path of virtue.
